The biggest exhibit on water in Bulgaria, Bulgaria Boat Show is officially opening Thursday evening at the seaport of the country’s sea capital Varna – www.varna.bg For more visit www.cigaretteracing.com The yacht exhibit will take place June 6 to the 8 and will present over 50 new yacht models. 20 of them will be on the water while the remaining will be showcased on land. Antique Boat Show
The flash of polished bronze and gleam of varnished wood across the water will be the order of the day as elegant antique and classic yachts sail into the host city of Salem, Massachusetts for the 26th Annual Antique & Classic Boat Festival August 23-24. Mostly wood, primarily private yachts and aesthetically stunning, the vessels will be on display to the public over the weekend at Hawthorne Cove Marina. A hallmark of the Festival is the great variety of craft exhibited. “Where else,” says Pat Wells, Coordinator, “can one see 1920s-50s motor yachts, mahogany speedboats, sloops, yawls, schooners and a 19th century gold-leaf canoe! Although many of these craft are museum quality, they are real boats in the water and in use by their owners today.”

From “Ava: My Story” “Now, I can sing. I do not expect to be taken for Maria Callas, Ella Fitzgerald, or Lena Home, but I can carry a tune well enough for the likes of Artie Shaw to feel safe offering to put me in front of his orchestra. But since Julie’s two songs, “Bill” and “Can’t Help Loving That Man,” are so beloved by everyone, I decided to work as hard as I could to fit the bill. I even found this marvelous teacher, who’d worked with both Lena and Dorothy Dandridge, and we slaved away for several weeks and produced a test record of those two songs. Then, rather nervously, I took my life into my hands and gave the record to Arthur Freed himself, God Almighty of musical productions. I don’t think the son of a bitch ever even listened to it He just put it on a shelf and delivered the usual studio ultimatum: “Now, listen, Ava, you can’t sing and you’re among professional singers.” So that settled that one. Or did it? Because the singer they’d chosen to dub my singing had a high, rather tiny voice, totally inappropriate when it was paired with my own speaking voice. The studio spent thousands and thousands of dollars and used the full MGM orchestra trying to get this poor girl right. I mean, there was nothing wrong with her in the first place, except for the obvious fact that she wasn’t me. Finally, they got …

Boat trailer accessories?
I seen a commercial on a fishing show (I believe Roland Martin) about a site with trailer accessories. They had a self launching system which attaches to the trailer and it both launches the boat off of the trailer for you and cranks the boat on the trailer for you. I don’t remeber what the site was now and was wondering if somebody happened to see this commercial or knew of the site. There was also a small electrical device that attaches to the trailer letting you know when the trailer is far enough in the water before loading.

The opening and closing scenes (with credits) from MGM’s 1951 musical masterpiece “Showboat”. Taken from the book by Edna Ferber about life aboard the “Cotton Blossom” showboat. Starring the charming and talented Kathryn Grayson as Magnolia Hawks, the beautiful and haunting Ava Gardner as Julie LaVerne, the dashing and handsome Howard Keel as Gaylord Ravenal, Joe E. Brown as Cap’n Andy Hawks and Agnes Moorehead as Parthy Hawks. Also starring William Warfield as Joe who (in my opinion) makes the movie with his heartfelt rendition of “Old Man River”. Jerome Kern (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II (script and lyrics).
